Attire
Wear professional attire, such as a dark suit unless otherwise instructed to wear your white coat by your department. Dark colors provide good contrast and photograph best
White Coat? take a look at what others are wearing on your department site if everyone is wearing their white coat go ahead and do the same. If there is no consensus with your department, it is up to you. A couple things to consider are white coats are hard to photograph, often they are dirty & wrinkled and the white of the coat makes it hard for the camera to deal with skin tones consistently. Business attire in a portrait might be more useful in more situations.

Academic (Research & Education) Faculty listed on Michigan Experts can get their portrait taken using this service. The Department of Communication provides the portrait service to support the uofmhealth.org & Michigan Experts websites. If staff (e.g. Residents, Fellows & Support Staff) are not listed on these website we usually suggest this self-serve option, or contacting Michigan Photography. There may be situations that support staff can use this service, but that would have to be determined by the Department of Communication management (Ask-MichMed@med.umich.edu)

Check the schedule a couple days before the date you need - Often people cancel a day before their portrait day & this opens up times that could work for you.
